Most people are hesitant to calibrate the torque wrench because they think that it’s a complicated process. Contrary to the perception, anyone can easily calibrate a torque wrench using the following steps:
How To Calibrate a Torque Wrench?
1 .Take Measurement
The first step is to take the measurement from the center of the square drive to a point midway along the handle. Make it easier by taking the measurement in whole inches instead of using partial inches. Once the measurement is completed, don’t forget to mark the handle with a black marker.
2. Secure the Torque Wrench
If a vise is not available, put a socket on the wrench and secure the two parts on the lug nut of a piece of equipment.
3. Perform Calculations
To get the settings, multiply the distance in the first step with the weight used. The result will be in inch-pounds. To convert the reading into foot-pound, divided the result by 12.
4. Perform Calibration
Tie the cable around the rope. The rope should not touch the ground and the loop should be large enough to slide over the torque wrench. At this point, set the torque wrench to 25 foot-pounds.
5. Adjust the Torque Wrench
You can also adjust the torque wrench by tightening the tension spring. If it doesn’t work, then try to readjust the measurement.
If you’re still not sure how to calibrate a torque wrench, you can get the work done through a reputable company such as AME International.
