We Are Steel Plate Manufacturers
At Raybestos Powertrain, we pride ourselves on our ingenuity and our innovation. We have an entire research and development team based in Crawfordsville, Indiana. The specialists there are working on developing new materials and creating new products.
Our technical center applies engineering support for all of our automotive applications. We have teams that are testing materials and developing prototypes. Yet, one of the things that we are most proud of is our manufacturing plants.
We are steel plate manufacturers. We are dual friction clutch manufactures. We are automotive parts manufacturers. It makes us proud to say those things about Raybestos Powertrain, and that is why we want to introduce you to a few of our fantastic facilities.
Crawfordsville, Indiana
This facility opened way back in 1952, and it is a huge place with 455,000 square feet of automotive innovation. We manufacture a lot of our friction materials at this plant including papers, elastomeric, graphitic, and sintered.
The production lines at the facility produce clutch plates, torque converters, and wet brake plates. In addition to the production, it is also the home of our development teams.
Sullivan, Indiana
In Sullivan, we have two different facilities. The Chaney Street building is 130,000 square foot and it is the home of our automotive aftermarket products. You will find production lines putting out friction plates, solenoids, bands, and filters on Chaney Street.
The second facility in Sullivan is HD Steel. This is the place where all of our heavy-duty and off-road products are produced. You will find lines doing reaction plate stamping and finishing operations in this 38,000 square foot facility.
Tipton, Indiana
The Tipton facility was opened in 1946, and it is located just 45 minutes away from Indianapolis. In this 185,000 square foot facility, the production lines include clutches, pressure plates, transmission components, shims, axle plates, piston cases, and brackets.
R & D Facilities
We also have to R&D facilities where our team is busy finding new product opportunities and better ways to keep up with customer demand. These team members are responsible for original product development and prototype manufacturing among other things.
