The Volvo brand of cars is synonymous with safety, though when the brand first came on the market, people weren’t very interested. Automakers quickly argued that promoting laminate windshields and seatbelts would only serve to frighten consumers and keep them away from dealerships. However, Volvo and a few others started the safety movement and continued their promotions.
Rockford residents who want to be safe while driving won’t find it hard to find a vehicle that suits their needs. However, the Volvo XC90 might not initially be on your list, and it should.
Configurations
The XC90 was one of Volvo’s first-ever SUVs, and it has a similar body platform as the S80. The 2003 version sported five doors and had stilts, allowing more ground clearance. Of course, safety is the primary concern here, so they reinforced the vehicle with a boron steel safety cage, which makes it highly resistant to crushing.
It also had plenty of safety gear and a roomy cabin, as well as a third-row seat. Base models had a five-cylinder turbocharged engine while the T6 model had a 2.9L six-cylinder engine.
In 2005, they led the way for more muscle-car-style SUVs with the V8 engine they rolled out. The XC90 got a newer engine style in 2007, along with a new Sports model and many cosmetic enhancements.
Road Warrior
While some critics frown on performances, the T6 SUV can get up to 96 miles per hour in just under nine seconds, though these aren’t considered outstanding numbers. Many people were happy with the plentiful safety features, quiet ride, and off-roading capabilities.
